Tinnitus is a perception that can be described as a ringing, whistling, hissing, roaring, humming, buzzing or clicking sound. It can occur in one ear, both ears or in the head and can be acute or chronic. A tinnitus evaluation can be useful to document its presence and guide/monitor progress with management options.
Management possibilities include sound therapy, hearing device selection/fitting and/or counselling utilizing simple strategies to work towards decreasing its perception.
You will be asked to complete a tinnitus questionnaire and an audiologic history form. Dr. Popowych will then obtain a comprehensive hearing history and evaluate your hearing. The testing is done in a sound treated room utilizing calibrated headphones.
Testing may also include identification of the tinnitus loudness and pitch utilizing tinnitus evaluation equipment. The audiologist will discuss the test results and then create a plan that will help decrease or if possible eliminate the perceived tinnitus which can be possible with device use.
